Pressure-induced superconductivity in europium metal
Of the 52 known elemental superconductors among the 92 naturally occurring elements in the periodic table, fully 22 only become superconducting under sufficiently high pressure. In the rare-earth metals, the strong local magnetic moments originating from the 4f shell suppress superconductivity. For Eu, however, Johansson and Rosengren have suggested that sufficiently high pressures should promo...
متن کاملSuperconductivity with a Twist
Superconductivity and magnetism are typically antithetical forms of order. After all, in conventional superconductors, magnetic impurities are destructive to superconductivity as they break Cooper pairs [1]. But the discovery in 1979 of so-called heavy fermion superconductivity, found near an antiferromagnetic phase, led to a shift in thinking on this subject [2]. Since then, some of the most i...
متن کاملBuilding large supramolecular nanocapsules with europium cations.
A new tripodal ligand has been designed by connecting pyridine-based coordination units to a rigid triptycene moiety. Its reaction with europium(III) provides three-dimensional tetranuclear edifices, whose structural and photophysical characteristics as well as host-guest interactions are discussed in this contribution.

Carrier density is one of the most important parameters in changing the electronic properties of materials. The most useful and conventional way to control the carrier density is chemical syntheses. On the other hand, physicists and electronic engineers have developed a field effect transistor (FET) device for changing the carrier density by electric fields. Furthermore, by introducing a liquid...
متن کاملSilver europium(III) polyphosphate
Europium(III) silver polyphosphate, AgEu(PO(3))(4), was prepared by the flux method. The atomic arrangement is built up by infinite (PO(3))(n) chains (periodicity of 4) extending along the c axis. These chains are joined to each other by EuO(8) dodeca-hedra. The Ag(+) cations are located in the voids of this arrangement and are surrounded by five oxygen atoms in a distorted [4+1] coordination.
